This autumn, we were able to plant small forests with the children at six different daycare locations in Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt. A big task that we were able to master with our team. Now we have actually managed it and given many children the opportunity to experience a piece of wild nature for playing and learning in their everyday lives.
It took about three months from the start of planning to the planting activities. During this time, our team of six was busy almost every day determining the plant compositions, ordering materials, coordinating deliveries and soil preparation and planning the planting activities with the local stakeholders. A huge effort for us, but now we can be very proud of ourselves! Because everything really worked out wonderfully and now we are exhausted and happy as we take a short winter break before a whole host of new, exciting projects await us next year.
The planting campaign in particular was a great success. At the six locations, over 200 children, teachers and parents worked together to plant over 2,000 trees, shrubs and ground cover plants! Because whether big or small: everyone gets involved in the Tiny Forest projects! And we can learn so much from each other. On the one hand, we teach the children all the things we already know about nature and try to encourage and inspire them. On the other hand, the little tots often already know a lot. And we grown-ups also learn to have fun with them again, to be childlike and to play. And so, bit by bit, we create a peaceful and healthy earth together!
The Tiny Forest project fits perfectly into the concept of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), which is implemented in many FRÖBEL centres. It gives educational staff the opportunity to introduce children to the topics of the environment and sustainability and to empower them to think and act responsibly towards the future.
We are already looking forward to the many future projects with you!
